TEN-DIGIT DIALING IN CONNECTICUT
The Switch to 10-Digit Dialing for all Calls Within Connecticut . . . and What You Need to do
With the rapid growth of cell phones, Internet connections, ATMs, alarms and other devices, Connecticut is running out of telephone numbers! To make more numbers available, the state Department of Public Utility Control is adding 2 new area codes: 475 and 959. This means that you will soon have to dial 10 digits for all calls within Connecticut, even local calls.
WHEN DOES THIS TAKE EFFECT?
10 digit dialing is optional starting April 1, 2009 and becomes mandatory on November 14, 2009.
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOU?
Besides dialing extra digits, you may need to re-program any equipment that stores or dials telephone numbers, such as: |

• fax machines |
• automatic dialers |
